Elaine Seifert - Alternate Dispute Resolution

Elaine Seifert, Q.C. is a lawyer and specialist in alternate dispute resolution. She has more than 20 years experience as a lawyer in family law, civil litigation and alternate dispute resolution. Elaine is one of a few lawyers in Canada with a LL.M. degree in Alternate Dispute Resolution from the Straus Institute, Pepperdine School of Law, Malibu, California.

Admitted to the Law Society of Alberta in 1988, Elaine was a partner with Dunphy, Best, Blocksom, Barristers and Solicitors, in Calgary, where she practiced family law, civil litigation and alternate dispute resolution.

In 2002, she left this partnership to establish her own dispute resolution practice. She now practices exclusively in the areas of mediation, negotiation, arbitration, conflict management and collaborative practice. She also presents mediation, negotiation, communication and conflict management seminars and trainings to the medical, legal and business communities in Alberta.

Elaine has over 1000 hours of training in the theory, practice and techniques of mediation, negotiation, collaborative processes and arbitration. In addition she has mediated disputes in a variety of areas including family, personal injury, professional negligence, contract, healthcare and employment.

Elaine is also actively involved the mediation community in Calgary. She volunteers as a Dispute Resolution Officer at the Court of Queen's Bench and is a roster mediator for the Court of Queen's Bench of Alberta and the Alberta Energy Resources and Conservation Board.

Elaine is the past chair of the Alternate Dispute Resolution Section of the Calgary Branch of the Canadian Bar Association. In addition she is a registered collaborative lawyer, is the past co-chair of the Association of Collaborative Professionals - Calgary and a volunteer mediator with the Law Society of Alberta Fee Mediation Program. Elaine sits as a board member of the Alberta Arbitration and Mediation Scoiety.

Elaine is committed to educating the public in the use of conflict resolution processes. She has presented numerous seminars and trainings on mediation, negotiation and collaborative practice for private groups and the Legal Education Society of Alberta. Elaine is  a sessional instructor, teaching Dispute Resolution, at the University of Calgary Law School and is an adjunct assistant professor at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Calgary. Elaine is also an instructor with the Alberta Arbitration and Mediation Society.

She is the author of a number of articles on alternate dispute resolution, mediation and collaborative practice.
